Starting Saturday, Thai Food Owensboro is expanding its hours to serve American-style breakfast from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. daily. Owner Nang Crowe first came up with the idea last fall when she moved the restaurant to its new location on Parrish Avenue, and she brought Ryan Burr into the kitchen to bring it to life.

Burr traces his cooking skills back to BJ’s Castle Burger, where he worked for several years under the guidance of his grandfather, BJ himself.

“When I worked at BJ’s, people often asked me if I was going to open my own restaurant,” Burr said. “It will be your standard American breakfast with omelettes, pancakes, etc., but everything will be fresh and locally sourced.”

Burr’s grandfather’s big breakthrough began at an A&W Root Beer booth, where he developed a substantial following due to his short order skills.

“Family is everything, and without his experience rubbing off on me, I wouldn’t be able to put love behind every plate like he did,” Burr said. “I remember the first day I started with him. I had bean soup and chili in slow cookers, and he handed me diced tomatoes to put in, and I put them in the bean soup. I have come a long way since. »

Crowe said there may be some Thai influence in the future, but for now she plans to let Burr run the breakfast business.

Burr and Crowe said the omelets would feature farm-fresh vegetables from Riney Farms and American fries paired with some Kentucky favorites in one skillet. These favorites will range from country ham and biscuits and gravy to a host of classics inspired by local traditions.

“We respect the fact that we live in Owensboro and Kentucky, and we were inspired by the local palace,” Crowe said. “We have clients on the west side of town who need a place to have breakfast, and we’re happy to be able to provide that for them.”

Crowe opened Thai Food Owensboro in 2017 on Carter Road before moving to its current location on West Parrish Avenue next to Donatos. The new location has a small breakfast bar with a flat grill in the back, ideal for the breakfast concept.
