Another remake of the Thai movie “Bad Genius”

After getting a Hindi remake, “Bad Genius” now also gets an English remake.

May 18 – “Bad Genius” is certainly gaining the upper hand on the international stage, as another remake of the Thai film has been announced.

This time, the film will be the subject of an English remake, as reported by Deadline.

Erik Feig and Patrick Wachsberger are expected to develop, produce and fund the remake under their respective banners Picturestart and Picture Perfect Entertainment.

No director has been revealed but the screenplay will be written by Eva Anderson.

The adaptation is described as a high-stakes, high-octane thriller that follows a group of enterprising high school kids working together to take down the college’s rigged admission system.

Remake rights were secured before news of the current US college admissions scandal broke.

Last year, another remake was already announced for “Bad Genius”, although it is a Hindi remake directed by Neeraj Pandey from Bollywood.

The original “Bad Genius,” directed by Nattawut Poonpiriya, ranked number one in May 2017 at the Thai box office and became the highest-grossing Thai film of that year. He has won numerous awards both locally and internationally and also set a record with his victory in 12 categories at the 27th Suphannahong National Film Awards.

After keeping a low profile since “Bad Genius,” Nattawut Poonpiriya will return with a film adaptation of the 2018 Thai Cave Rescue, which he is working on with Hollywood director Jon M. Chu.
